Troops of the 72 Special Forces Brigade in Makurdi, Benue state, have stopped 73 men from going to Imo state from Nasarawa.
According to The PUNCH, the men were making their way to the south-eastern state with 47 motorcycles when they were stopped by the soldiers.
Imo state has been witnessing attacks by gunmen. Lives and property have been lost to these attacks.
Hope Uzodimma, Imo governor, had said most of the gunmen attacking the state are not Igbo.
Benson Abounu, deputy governor of Benue state, said no arms were found on them but asked what the men were going to do in Imo which is facing security challenges.
While visiting the troops on Tuesday, Abounu said a “detailed profiling” of the men should be carried out because their answers “are not adding up”.
Earlier, A. D. Alhassan, commander of the 72 Special Forces Brigade, said he and his officers acted based on a security report.
Alhassan said the men were eventually arrested at night when they got to Makurdi.
