Yasore community in Batsari Local Council of Katsina State was overran by Armed Bandits on Tuesday in an operation that lasted for several hours.
The notorious gunmen who defying the ongoing security measures in the State, came riding on motorcycles as usual.
In the course of the attack on the community, the spokesman of the State Police Command, SP. Gambo Isah confirmed that no fewer than 11 persons were killed, while 10 others got injured, though sources from the community gave the tally of those killed to be 16, among several others that were injured.
According to SP. Gambo, the attack was a reprisal by herdsmen to avenge the death of their members who were recently allegedly killed by volunteer vigilantes, locally known as ‘Yan Sakai.’
“Yes, the attack on the community is true and unfortunately 11 people lost their lives and 10 others sustained various degree of injuries. The attack was a reprisal by herdsmen whose members were killed by Yan Sakai recently.
“Yan Sakai remains banned, and anyone caught parading himself as one would be treated like a bandit,” SP. Gambo warned.
Aside those killed and injured in the attack, the hoodlums also caused several havoc on the community as they set several houses on fire, looted and carted away cash, foodstuffs, phones, clothing items and rustled several cattles before leaving the community.
Recall that the Human Rights Writers Association of Nigeria, HURIWA, recently drew the attention of the Federal Government to the fact that the hoodlums despite the shutdown of communication channels in the banditry prone areas, are still able to find ways to continue with their heinous crime.
