Gunmen have attacked a police dragon squad attached to Delta State Command, injured three officers and made away with their rifles along Ozoro /Kwale Road in Ndokwa Local Council of the state.

The Guardian gathered that three of the eight police officers were injured, while one Chief Jose Onalugbum was killed.
At press time, the injured officers are receiving treatment in an undisclosed hospital.

Onalugbum, who was killed at about 8:15 a.m., on August 10, at his Oduegbala farmland, was allegedly shot severally by the hoodlums and his remains were  immediately taken to the mortuary.

The Guardian learnt that the incidents, which occurred on separate days, had created tension in Obodougwua, Ogume community and environs as many people fled to neighbouring villages for refuge.

An aide to Governor Ifeanyi Okowa, representing Delta North Livestock Management Committee, Mr. Ujene Matthew Ossai, who condemned the killing, called for quick intervention to fish out the culprits for prosecution.

Ossai , who condoled with the immediate family of the deceased and the entire Obodougwua community over the loss, said it is regrettable that the state is becoming prone to attacks.

He pleaded with the Delta State government to take drastic action and warned security personnel to be alert at all times no matter where they are posted.

Another member of the community, Sunday Ojei, said the killings are very painful. According to him, it is sad to see killings taking place everyday without appropriate action to protect human lives.

The Police Public Relations (PPRO), Edafe Bright, who confirmed the incidents, said the dragon task force went after the hoodlums immediately, killed two and recovered two AK47 rifles.
