No fewer than 15 people were killed and more wounded when terrorists invaded communities in Zamfara and Sokoto States on Monday evening, residents have said.
The attacked communities were Ruwan Bore in Zamfara and Gatawa, Dangari and Kurawa in Sokoto State.
In Sokoto, a resident Nura Mamman, said over the phone that the attackers invaded Dangari about 2pm.
“I was in my house when I heard screams of women and children. By then, the bandits were trying to enter the community but a team of soldiers and policemen with vigilante members was putting them off. They came in two or more groups. The security agents could not contain them because of their weapons,” Mamman, a graduate of Sokoto State University, said.
He said when the attackers entered the community but most of the residents had run out to other villages.
Four residents were killed while over 10 others had various degrees of injuries, he said.
From Dangari, the terrorists went to Gatawa and Kurawa communities all in Sabon Birni Local Government Area of the state.
Basharu Guyawa, a resident of Isa Local Government Area tsaid 11 people from the three communities were confirmed dead, with several others injured.
Four persons were reportedly killed in Zamfara, it was learnt.
Three brothers abducted in the Lau Local Government Area of Taraba State have been killed by their abductors.
Police spokesman Abdullahi Usman said the incident took place on Sunday at Garin Dogo community of Lau LGA.
The kidnappers had demanded N100m to release the victims but the father of the hostages, Alhaji Musa, a cattle dealer, negotiated the ransom to N60m, which they agreed.
The money was delivered to the kidnappers, who still killed the three brothers including the ransom bearer, it was said.
