One person has been reportedly killed with many others displaced as suspected herdsmen invaded Gurjaji village in Fika local government area of Yobe State.

DAILY POST learnt that the invaders stormed the community with bows and arrows in the early hours of Tuesday shooting and setting ablaze houses and shops.

The ugly development has forced many dwellers to run to the nearby villages for their safety.

The Executive Secretary, Yobe State Emergency Management Agency, (SEMA), Dr Mohammed Goje confirmed the incident in a post via his verified Facebook page.

“Based on the findings, a total of 146 households with over a thousand individuals, including pregnant and lactating mothers, children, person with disabilities and elderly persons were affected and displaced to the nearby communities of Maluri, Garin Ari, Dibbol, Bulaburin, and Fika communities.

“Over 89% of the community was razed and destroyed. Properties worth millions of Naira were destroyed.

“On a sad note, 1 person (a 50-year-old deaf man) was killed with an arrow in his chest and another person sustained a serious injury”, he posted.

He said as directed by Governor Buni, SEMA is currently intensifying efforts to support the victims, while relocation and reintegration is ongoing.
