Former Governor of Edo State, Adams Oshiomhole, has backed Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State for insisting on equity, fairness and justice in the Peoples Democratic Party, describing the latter as his man of the year.

Oshiomhole spoke while inaugurating the Rumuepirikom Flyover in Obio/Akpor local government area of Rivers State; a project constructed and completed by the Wike-led administration.

The former National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress commended Wike for inviting him and some opposition leaders to inaugurate projects, saying when he governed Edo, he invited the then Anambra governor, Peter Obi, to open some projects in his state.

“The President Buhari finds in your person inspite of your unflattery statements about his government, worthy of that honour as Mr. Project. I think Rivers people should be proud. Governor Wike has truly transformed this city. Even the worst critic will admit that Governor Wike has made a difference,” Oshiomhole stated.

Continuing, Oshiomhole said, “You made a difference not just in projects. I join you in saying that a country should not be governed by people who cannot be trusted; when politicians make statements, promises and agreements and refuse to obey them. When they default, they will say it is politics.

“When I was asked about the issues in PDP, I said Wike is my man of the year. He is insisting that politics should not be about making agreements that we do not intend to deliver on.”

Earlier, Wike insisted that the aggrieved Peoples Democratic Party G-5 governors will not accept any reconciliation not hinged on equity, fairness and justice.

The governor pointed to how, prior to the crisis rocking the PDP, some members of the party were singing praises of him and colleagues that make up the G-5 governors.

He noted that the same people have turned around to call them names because they are clamouring for what was right.

Wike said, “I’m sure those of them in my party. Before, they cannot say anything without mentioning Wike. But now, I said let the right thing be done, let agreement be agreement.

“Because I have said that, I have now become an enemy. These were people who were praising me morning, night, any day.

He called on leaders across strata and divide to promote unity among Nigerians.

According to him, the expected unity should be devoid of ethnicity, religion and party considerations but based on the fact that one is a Nigerian.

“We need a Nigeria that all of us can be proud of. And so for us, all we are looking for is how Nigeria will progress and how people will have food on their table. It is not a about ethnicity, it is not about religion. It is not about party but how Nigeria will progress. That is where we stand,” he said.
